Shae Morrissey Joins Barrett Jackson Team in Scottsdale, AC

Durinbg the summer of 2015, and newly certified by the International Detailing Association (IDA), the Buff Man's daughter Shae Morrissey, joined fellow members of the Air Force One Detailers in Scottsdale, Arizona where she honed her dry sanding skills in paint correction on some glitzy classics from Barrett Jackson Auctions.

Morrissey, who has been detailing automobiles since she was nine years old, and runs the daily operations of the Buff Man shop in Ephrata, has a knack for restoring paint on classic cars of all types.

Working alongside veteran detailers Christian and Christopher Parker at Detail Boss in Scottsdale, Shae says the experience she gleaned from working on the Barrett Jackson vehicles helped build her confidence at performing highly advanced and specialized paint correction.

“Paint correction is imperative to restoring older vehicles to their original luster, but it requires removing a microscopic level of your clear coat using an abrasive so the paint can shine through,” she explains.

The clear coat is less than the thickness of a sheet of paper and takes the brunt of scratches, environmental contaminants, and oxidation. Removing just enough but not too much requires expert precision or the detailer can damage the paint. On a classic, that can mean thousands of dollars!

“I know how to do it, but I wanted to gain more experience and sharpen my skills, in order to get more confident about it," Shae says. "Now that I have an official certification from the IDA, I want to confidently move to the next level, which is specializing in detailing classic automobiles.”

Among the vehicles on the Arizona team’s plate for Barrett Jackson was a 1956 Cadillac Hearse; a 1968 Dodge Charger; a 1956 Ford F-100 Pick-up; and three of Shae's favorites - a 1952 Cadillac Roadster, a 1959 Cadillac Couch, and a 1962 Lincoln Continental. There were nearly a dozen in all, requiring anywhere from Stage 2 Paint Correction, to the finest in Concours detailing.
